Tween Book Review, "Oops!: TJ and the Time Stumblers"

Recently, I received a book to review from Tyndale publishers by Bill Myers. Prior to this, I had never heard of this author nor series, but am SO GLAD that I now have!

This review is about Bill Myer's book, Oops! (TJ and the Time Stumblers). This book is #3 in a series that will eventually include 6 books. This book is aimed at ages 9-12, better known as tweenagers :)

The first thing I noticed about this book was the author's ability to relate to his audience of tweens. The main character, Thelma Jean Finkelstein - better known as TJ, is a very spirited and curious young lady. TJ keeps the reader engaged with her silly antics and crazy sound effects! Her two sidekicks Tuna and Herby only add to the crazy and funny adventures these time traveling buddies stumble upon while being caught between different centuries.

But even more than the fabulous characters, are the underlying character building lessons that TJ "stumbles" upon during the book. Namely treating others as you want to be treated, love your neighbor as yourself, letting patience have her perfect work, and the importance of being honest no matter what the cost.

This book also shows the importance of your thought life. Through the use of her "Thought Broadcaster Pen" she learns how what one thinks is eventually what becomes their reality. Myer's uses very clever characters to draw our tweens into the story while serving them up a huge portion of godly character!

My 10-year-old daughter also read the book and she could not put it down! She read it in one sitting on a rainy afternoon and it sparked conversation about the character building mentioned above. A win win for our family!
