Karen Kingsbury's "Waiting For Morning" - Book Review

I had the pleasure of reviewing the first book from Karen Kingsbury's Forever Faithful trilogy, Waiting for Morning. This book really gives great insight on the human heart and it's need for God's LOVE and grace!

The main character, Hannah Ryan, turns her back on God after the loss of her husband and oldest daughter in a tragic car accident. The book chronicles her struggle of hatred towards the Brian Wesley, the drunk driver who took the lives of her beloved family members. She becomes so consumed with the hatred of this man and the pursuit of a murder one conviction, that she neglects her surviving daughter to the point of extreme isolation. Searching for peace in all the wrong places, Hannah soon finds out that revenge against Brian and even the court battle leading to his conviction, does not bring her the peace she is looking for. Despite Hannah's seeming inability to believe in God, there are people who are sent into her life that allow the light of God to shine into Hannah's heart through their actions.

The main point of this book is that "weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning (Psalm 30:5)." This book is a great depiction of the realities that some believers face when tragedy strikes in their life. Although Hannah initially turns her back on God, eventually she finds her way back into her loving Father's arms. At the end of the book after Hannah visits Wesley in prison to let him know of her forgiveness,  she finds herself having compassion she never thought she could towards the man who took her precious family members lives.

One thing is for sure, Kingsbury has an ability to teach the truth of God's word; even through Christian fiction. It is a must read for anyone who struggles with taking loved ones for granted, sin, judgement, and is striving to become more like Christ!
